Shawn McDermott, ATC, LAT

Shawn McDermott founded Synergy Rehabilitation Performance in 2022 with a passion for helping athletes recover and perform at their highest level. 


A 2005 graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Shawn is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and is CPR, First Aid and AED Certified by the American Red Cross. Before Synergy, he served as a head athletic trainer in professional baseball and was recognized as the Northwest League Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2011.


Shawn is renowned for his incredible focus and work ethic and brings that same dedication to his role as founder of Synergy. By focusing his sports medicine experience on health patterns and objective data, he is recognized across professional sports as a leader in athletic therapy. He believes treatment should be accessible to athletes of all ages and is committed to empowering them through their recovery process.

Synergy At PRIDE

Synergy is strategically located within PRIDE to allow our athletic trainers to collaborate with the referring medical team and incorporate rehabilitation programs with on-site performance training. 

Synergy Performance Rehabilitation Amenities:

  • Output strength and ROM testing,

  • Nordboard testing;

  • VALD Speed timing gates,

  • Individiualized programing steamed to 85” TVs,

  • Blood flow Restriction Training,

  • Recovery modalities including Normatec, Marcpro and Theraguns, and

  • a team of chiropractors, massage therapists and strength coaches dedicated to multiplying efforts to maximize your performance.

Testing guides all of our programming and our systems complement each other. PRIDE measures range of motion, body fat and advises on nutrition. The Synergy team tests strength and range of motion to maximize performance on and off the field.

Jake Jelmini,
Sports science

Jake Jelmini joined Synergy Performance Rehab in January 2023 as Director of Sports Science.


His mission is to bridge the gap between injury prevention and human performance using data-driven initiatives to inform clinical practice. He received his Bachelor's degree in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon and received Master's degrees from both California State University, Los Angeles in Kinesiology / Exercise Science and from Texas A&M University in Athletic Training.  Jake is a licensed and certified athletic trainer and previously worked in professional baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers as a minor league athletic trainer. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. 


In addition to his current work with Synergy Performance, Jake is a PhD candidate at the University of Kentucky where he works at the Sports Medicine Research Institute.  His current research activities focus on injury prevention strategies in the tactical athlete, specifically firefighting, where he is developing a model of monitoring firefighter workload using on-duty emergency call volume, heart rate, and sleep.
